Fork Spring Swap???

Posted by tonupyank at January 04. 2007
Anyone ever swap springs in their forks?? I just ordered some racetech springs and want to swap the stockers out. So, looking for advice. Who's got some?!?!?

Is it as simple as pulling the top cap, pulling the old spring, putting in new spring adding oil??? I have the airgap levels from Racetech, so.........

I've only done it on older street bikes and on my dirt bikes. On those, it was exactly as you describe; a very simple process. I'll be interested in feedback from others as I'm considering changing the springs in my PS's Ohlins.

Been there, done that.... Easy as pie, BUT, dump stock fluids and up-grade as suggested by Race Tech, then re-set sag! (Absolute Must!) and set compression and rebound to specs, test ride, re-set dampening to suit your style... expect to try a couple of different settings... test ride repeatedly OVER THE EXACT SAME ROUTE!, Ride a week, re-test on your route and Then decide if it feels right. Now, once you think the front is 'Dialled-In', try adjusting the rear!
Note that sometimes you will want to chuck it all and give up... sometimes it just doesn't seem much better, and maybe worse.... Everything in life is about PERCEPTION(which may change with your mood), and save a lap timer, only your perception counts! Remember you can always go back to base factory settings, and start over(you did make a note of the original settings, didn't you?). Sometimes Ducatis May leave the factory with a less than optimal set up .... your size/weight and riding use and style could be somewhat different from what a test rider in Bolonga-ville thinks is optimum.
Race Tech Knows their stuff.... Above all, have fun, make small changes, Experiment! If you make a change and you like the result, Congrats.... and welcome to the top of learning curve!

Good stuff. This is one of the topics that we will hopefully soon have the expertise of a local instructor!  Stay tuned...but keep up the discussion!
