QUALIFIED!! Darren Murrey at Sears Point!
Up to Racing
Good Luck Darren!
I'll be joining Darren this weekend and will keep folks updated.
Your Prez will be in the pits with Mark Appleby helping Darren make it to the next level. I'll try to post updates as I can.
There will also be updates on DucatiUSA.com
That's right just like the title says.....local team makes good at AMA!
At a venue with as much history as Infineon Raceway/Sears Point and with as much competition in the field, it's a daunting task to dream of being in such company. What is it that drives those who battle with these machines?
The journey for us all is lonely and hard. For Darren Murrey of DMD Racing a goal and a personal best has been achieved. Today at Infineon Raceway a day long dialogue between pilot, team and machine has taken place and the result has been to qualify for a chance at an AMA podium in Formula eXtreme race.
Darren Murrey is a one of us; a Nor'wester who decided one day to ride a Ducati in a race and test his mettle. And today he decided to be one of the best.
See you on T.V. We'll be in red and black.
err....well a lot of fatigue and a little bourbon....or was that the other way round?
Well we had a great day regardless of the outcome. After a long sports psychology/team talk Friday night everything clicked for DMD Racing. Things that should go smoothly so they did. And some things like discovering suspension issues were ulitimately a swing arm battering the exhaust pipes...on all three bikes...well we rolled with it. All went well and there is always a backup plan right. (rocket science in action)
Darren was off to one of the best starts I've ever seen. Throttle petgged, legs out and flying like a bat out of Hell. Darren was off the grid in last and by the end of the straights had passed five contenders! Lap after lap Darren held his own in a strong field. He traded places with a couple guys but kept a stiff upper lip all the while.
Starting in the second to last lap...racers decided to get off their machines. Several crashes littered the field. Then on the last lap a rider went down in front of Darren. By his own account Darren avoided the mess only to have a nice gentleman bash him from behind (apparently not as swift in reaction time). Darren managed to skid to a stop suffering some minor soreness but able to walk and function normally. (Thanks to superior Sports Therapy preparation I'm sure
).
So what, we didn't finish. Larger goals were achieved: personal bests, coping with changes, and flawless execution as a team. Those goals though small on immediate satisfaction will prove to be big on investment in the near future.
Congrats Darren.
(Spokane here we come....).
