Boo Hoo! I Broke my Monster!!

Posted by TANKGIRL4FUN at April 18. 2008

I killed my monster 900ie !! Any help on diagnosis would be greatly appreciated!! I was  riding thru Alkaai Beach when my Duc died.It was stop & go traffic and I was keeping the RPM up to 1500/2000 RPM when it decided it wanted to stop running. This is an old duc (a 2000- 900ie model) Please help me get this Duc back on the road I want to kick some Triumph butt on the 26th of April!!!

Technical problems with the Duc.; It is not getting any fuel. I can spray carb cleaner down it's throat and it runs. All electrical checks out OK......

First....Carb cleaner can't be good on a bike with no carbeurator.  Especially on a Ducati throttle body.

My first guess is change or clean and re-gap the spark plug(s).  Carb cleaner is flammable and very volatile which may be giving a bad spark easier fuel to burn initially.

Next...well, ya may have to pull it apart and look at the injectors.  They may likely be hosed, or just need cleaning.

that's my $.02 worth.

Check your fuel system. Fuel pump And filter. You may have got some water or dirt from bad fuel.

After that check the electrical system starting with the battery and alternator with a multimeter.  A short can cause all kinds of weird things.

Howdy! At weird as this sounds, I had know idea when I bought this bike that the not only was the fuel pump was in the tank but the fuel filter was in there too!! I blew out the fuel line on the fuel filter output line which made my monster not run. I really  thought that I was ripped off when I couldn't find the fuel filter! No idea it was also inside the tank!!! All is well broken fuel line repaired, but every now and then bike needs a push start to run...  not often but enough to make me ride with people who are willing to give me a push start just in case!! Rode with some of the veteran Triumph boys this last Sunday, and found out I really need to put some track time in on this bike or ride with some Ducs!!

1. get a gel battery and a battery tender.

2. the charging system and the current battery need to be checked.

on the fuel filter thing...stay in contact with your club!  We could've cleared up that issue in minutes!
