Tell me about the rides you've been taking!
Up to Ride Planning
So, let's hear about the rides you've all been taking now that we've had a few days of nice weather. I've been riding back and forth to work every day. It's a 105 miles, round-trip. The ride home is the fun route. It takes me out Skyline through the West Hills of Portland then I drop down Logie Trail Road to Helvatia and then out West Union to North Plains. From there I take some back roads over Hwy 47 and then catch some more back roads over to Hwy 240, into a little town called Carlton. They I weave my way back over to McMinnville. It is some of the prettiest scenery you could ask for and plenty of nice rolling, twisty roads. On Saturday, I made my first trip across Bald Mountain Road, as the snow finally melted so it was the first time I've been able to ride over the top of the hill. The road is basically a Forest Service road that links a bunch of dirt bike riding areas together. The area is called the Upper Nestucca Recreation Area, or something to that effect. The road is like a race track. It's about one and a half lanes wide. It's a tricky, technical road in a lot of places and you have to be careful for oncoming traffic (pickups with trailers, medium duty trucks, etc.), gravel, and a few sunken grades. There's one spot where you come over a blind crest and the road looks like it's going to go straight on the down side of the crest, but it falls sharply to the left. Every time I go past that spot I wonder how many people have gone straight over the edge.
Well, that's what I've been up to. What about the rest of you?
ahhh! I've been stuck in Seattle with no bike while in an IT class for work. grr brain fried and all this nice weather!!
